State and national grants are options, and although the dollar amount is often higher, the application process is usually lengthier and you have more competition.

I belong to SCKLS and they are awesome! Our district had received over $20,000 in SCKLS grants over the past 17 years: continuing education, programming, technology, ebooks, automation. Amounts range from $200 to $3,000. Here is our list of grants we've received.

- PTO
- Churches, businesses, social groups and civic organizations (PEO, Rotary Club, sororities). A church once bought us requested supplies like new colored pencils and crayons. A PEO organization once purchased two books from the book fair for every 1st grader in our school. If you let people know you have a need, they may be willing to meet it.
- County and regional community foundations. We have the Rice County Community Foundation and the South Central Kansas Community Foundation.
- Regional library systems - EXCELLENT resources!
- Cox Communications
- Lowe's Toolbox for Education Grants - $2,000-$5,000. Application deadlines in spring and fall.
- Midwest Energy Community Fund
- Dollar General Literacy
- Kroger - request a donation (for schools and churches)
- Walmart Foundation - If you live within 100 miles of a Walmart store, you can apply for a local grant. They also give Walmart gift cards for purchasing supplies.
- Dane G. Hansen Foundation - If you live in northwest Kansas, you may be eligible to apply for a grant.
